Fashion News Friday: Virgil Abloh X Ikea Collaboration
Welcome to Fashion News Friday where I report on the top fashion stories of the week.
What?! Wedding Dresses For Under $200
If that day ever come, sign me up! I'm all about styling on a budget. H&M's Sister Brand & Other Stories, Reformations, and SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker X GILT collaboration are a few fashion brands that offer high-street bridal wear for the modern bride on a budget. Not every dress is under $200, however, they are pretty affordable compared to the traditional bridal wear price tag.
Kim Kardashian Helps Screenshop Get Social
What is Screenshop? It's an app that takes your screenshots of fashion posts and finds the same or similar outfits for sale. Kim Kardashian is the new Screenshop ambassador. For the next month, Screenshop is giving away $100 each week to the person who is posting the most on their discover page.
Gucci Under $250
Gucci's colorful and eclectic esthetic is something I admire from afar, because, well I'm on a budget. If you visit their website you are guaranteed to find a dress for around $5,000. Believe it or not, there are a few items that are under $250. They're mostly card cases and scarfs, but hey, it's something. See the full list of items on Who What Wear.
Fashion Revolution Week
It's been 5 years since the Rana factory collapse that killed 1,138 and injured so many more on April 24, 2013. The factory owners didn't keep up with building code requirement for a safe work environment. A great outfit isn't worth the lives of those who make them. From April 23 - April 29 the fashionrevolution.org is encouraging more people to ask #whomademyclothes so more brands will listen. You can be a part of this initiative by taking a photo of your clothing label and asking who made it. There is an insightful 5-minute documentary posted by The New York Times capturing the horror of that day.
IKEA X VIRGIL
Kanye West's longtime creative director, founder of the streetwear label Off-white, and now the new men's wear designer for Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh is expanding his influence even further. Ikea announced that they will hold a live broadcast on www.ikea.today on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 5:30 pm EST. There will be a conversation about the process, the ideas, and the prototype revolving around the collaboration.
